Obedience Training

Goals

Obedience class is designed around these main areas:

  • Teaching your dog to pay attention to you
  • Teaching your dog respect around other people and dogs
  • Preparing your dog for the canine good citizen evaluation which is offered at the last week of class

Obedience Courses

  • S.T.A.R. PUPPY CLASS: This class is for puppies ages 12 weeks to 5 months at the start of class.  Click here for more information
  • Basic Obedience: This class is for dogs over 6 months old and handlers that have never taken a class. The purpose is to teach the handler to train the dog to a basic level of obedience. It is specifically designed to prepare the handler and dog to take Canine Good Citizen test. Dogs may be entered in this class (or any of the obedience classes) more than once.

Next Class Session

Winter 2024 classes will start March 6, 2024 and run through April 24, 2024.    Equipment can be purchased during the first week of class.

Classes will be held weekly on Wednesday. Classes are 45 minutes long. All classes will be held at Bonneville County 4-H Building.  The following classes will be offered:

Registration

  • PRE-REGISTRATION is required.
  • Classes are limited to space available.  Register early to secure your spot.
  • Registration is accepted on a first come, first served basis.
  • Registration should be completed online using the online store.  Your slot is reserved when you have finished checking out.  You will receive a confirmation email when your order is complete.
  • If the class shows as “Out of Stock”, the class is full
  • If the class is full you may add your name to a waiting list in the case that a slot opens up.
  • Online payment options for PayPal are available.  If you plan to use a credit card, select the PayPal option.
  • Once the online registration is complete, you should receive a confirmation email, including your order number. Save this confirmation for future reference. Should you not receive this confirmation email, please contact the training director listed below.
  • Class registration will be closed no later than one week prior to the class start date.

Classes

The available classes are listed below.  To register, please select the class in which you are interested.

Cost

Costs are for the entire duration of the class, not a weekly rate.

  • Standard Rate: $100.00
  • Senior Discount (55 and older): $80.00
  • Dog Adopted from Shelter or Humane Society: $65.00 (must show adoption papers, reduced price is for first time through classes only)
  • Second Dog in Same Family for a single class: $85.00
  • Inactive Club Members: $50.00

Cancellation Fees

Attention: If you cancel your registration, there will be a cancellation/processing fee which will be deducted from the refund. Cancellation fees are as follows:
  • $20.00 if cancelled at any time.
  • $25.00 if cancelled 14 days or less before start of class.
  • NO refunds if cancelled 10 days or less before start of class.

Requirements

  • Proof of Rabies & PARVO vaccinations is required
  • Minimum age for the dog is 6 months at the start of class for all obedience classes
  • For the STAR Puppy class, the dog must be ages 12 weeks to 5 months at the start of class

Location

Spring classes will be held at Sandy Downs.  Enter at the second entrance.  It is marked as “Stalls / Office”.

Winter classes will be held at the 4H building at Bonneville County fairgrounds.  We meet at the primary building (the one closest to S 15th E).  You can park in front or in back.  Please enter at the side door in the middle of the building.
